The Columbia County Health Department has extended H1N1 vaccinations to the general public. All citizens are encouraged to receive this free vaccination.

A multi-disciplinary taskforce has been working hard over the past several years to ensure an effective local response to a pandemic flu outbreak.

What are the symptoms of H1H1 (Swine Flu)?

The symptoms of novel H1N1 flu virus in people include fever (100°F), cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. A significant number of people who have been infected with this virus also have reported diarrhea and vomiting.

If you have some of these symptoms:
  • STAY HOME AND AWAY FROM OTHERS (includes shopping malls, grocery stores)
  • REST
  • DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS
  • TAKE FEVER REDUCERS (acetaminophen or ibuprofen )


Emergency Warning Signs – Seek Medical Attention!

In children:

  • Fast breathing or trouble breathing
  • Bluish skin color
  • Not drinking enough fluids
  • Not waking up or not interacting
  • Being so irritable that the child does not want to be held
  • Flu-like symptoms improve but then return with fever and worse cough
  • Fever with a rash

In Adults:

  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
  • Pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen
  • Sudden dizziness
  • Confusion
  • Severe or persistent vomiting
