The Columbia County Health Department has extended H1N1 vaccinations to the general public.
All citizens are encouraged to receive this free vaccination.
A multi-disciplinary taskforce has been working hard over the past several years to ensure an effective local response to a pandemic flu outbreak.
What are the symptoms of H1H1 (Swine Flu)?The symptoms of novel H1N1 flu virus in people include fever (100°F), cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. A significant number of people who have been infected with this virus also have reported diarrhea and vomiting.
If you have some of these symptoms:- STAY HOME AND AWAY FROM OTHERS (includes shopping malls, grocery stores)
- REST
- DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS
- TAKE FEVER REDUCERS (acetaminophen or ibuprofen )
Emergency Warning Signs – Seek Medical Attention!
In children:
- Fast breathing or trouble breathing
- Bluish skin color
- Not drinking enough fluids
- Not waking up or not interacting
- Being so irritable that the child does not want to be held
- Flu-like symptoms improve but then return with fever and worse cough
- Fever with a rash
In Adults:
- Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
- Pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen
- Sudden dizziness
- Confusion
- Severe or persistent vomiting
